A Story About a Hero

Hello everyone!

This is my entry for July's Creative Challenge in the Sylvanarium, "Heroes, Idols & Stars".

I hope you like it!

Fiorella Andes was stumped, and that was very unusual for her.

She and the rest of her classmates had been asked to write an essay at school, and the theme was "Tell us about your hero".

At first, Fiorella had thought, of course, of world-renowned pianist Lionel Grande, with whom she had made her grand debut when he performed in Arcfield. But then, she had thought that was too obvious, too easy. She could imagine that poor Mr Grande, shy as he was, would be swamped with children of the village visiting his Arcfield home, all looking for an interview.

An idea came to mind, however, when later in the day she overheard her parents talking about their day in the living room.

At that moment, it became clear to her who she would be writing about.

"My name is Fiorella Andes, and today I will be writing about my Papa, Ricardo Andes, or Rick for short. He is Arcfield's doctor, and although until recently he only did house calls on his trusty bicycle, recently he has been able to open his own clinic thanks to some rich people investing money into the town. He's there bright and early every day, although he still never misses his first coffee of the day at The Blackcurrant Bush".

"The very first thing Papa does when he arrives at his clinic in the morning is to check his patients' files and appointments for the day. Nurse Emily, who also works the reception, always helps him".

"The clinic is visited by all sorts of people during an ordinary day. One day, for example, Molly Waters, Fred and George's mama, came saying that she was feeling under the weather, although no one would have suspected it seeing her as chatty as always and throwing a barrage of personal questions to Emily almost before she could utter a single word".

"Papa always takes his time with his patients. While chatting with Mrs Waters, he listened to her chest...

... and took her temperature. Fortunately, she had no fever".

"In the end, he ended up prescribing some cold pills and told Mrs Waters to rest and drink plenty of water".

"Papa couldn't rest after attending to Mrs Waters, since there was a commotion at the front door. Anthony and Christopher arrived in a hurry, since Christopher had fallen off his motorcycle while delivering pizzas and hurt his leg".

"While reassuring Christopher, he put his leg on a cast and told him to stay off his feet (and the motorcycle) for a while".

"Papa's work does not end after the clinic closes. Sometimes, he stays there all night to take care of patients. This happened on the day that Patricia Chocolate, Freya's grandma, arrived feeling dizzy and out of sorts. Worried about her, Papa kept her there for the night".

"The following days, Mrs Chocolate kept telling everyone how kind and thoughtful my Papa had been during her stay at the clinic. He kept asking how she was doing throughout the night and even brought her a hot water bottle in case she was cold or in pain".

"Fortunately, Mrs Chocolate was feeling much better the following day and could go back home with her family".

"My Papa is also great with children. Being his daughter, I know that he is super gentle and that his injections never hurt, but other kids from the village sometimes feel very scared at the clinic. Not for long though, since Papa always keeps talking to them until it's all over".

"Real heroes always know when there are things they cannot do, and so does my Papa. Doctor Julian works at his clinic as a dentist, and I hear he's quite good. My Papa always tells my Mama that Julian and Emily look at each other like they themselves did when they were young. That must mean that they are pretty lovey-dovey".

"In conclusion, Papa is my hero, because he is kind and brave, works very hard and helps everyone when they are sick or scared".

The End!

I hope you all liked this story! The prompt gave me an opportunity to finally feature the Cottage Hospital, a building I have had for years. I also enjoyed discovering the dentist set, it's so detailed!

Thank you everyone for reading and have a wonderful rest of the month!
